Soul Smashingly Beautiful

Soul-Smashingly Beautiful takes its name from a letter in Cheryl Strayed’s Dear Sugar, where the writer described a moment of profound emotional truth in a situation where beauty and pain can coincide in a situation. 

Those words struck me. I applied them to this small bronze form — a material often used for monuments, now scaled down to something intimate, delicate, and personal. The pear becomes its own little monument: a sentimental object cast in an enduring medium.
