My Other Half was meticulously designed to be held. The weight of the two hyper-realistic bronze halves invites close inspection of their intricate detail. This small avocado — split yet perfectly fitting — carries a quiet sentimentality, a gesture of closeness and care. It’s both playful and tender, a testament to the intimacy that can be achieved through material and scale.
Looking back from 2024, it’s easy to place this piece in its time. Created in 2022, during my early immersion in both the technical and historical aspects of bronze casting, this sculpture emerged as a deliberate contrast to traditional bronze monuments. While public bronzes often commemorate distant power, My Other Half seeks the opposite — a sense of relational nearness, something human, familiar, and emotionally accessible.
