This sculpture captures the gesture of offering—a hand reaching out from the wall in a quiet act of presence. Though cast in bronze, it is not the object alone that constitutes the artwork. The true art lies in the interaction: an invitation for the viewer to hold the fingers, to receive comfort, to experience support. The gesture becomes complete only when someone reaches back.
The idea for this piece was prompted by a small, unnoticed moment: I saw a man quietly pick up a coat that had slipped off the back of a woman’s chair. He placed it back gently, without her even noticing. That simple act of kindness struck me deeply. I asked him if I could cast his hands in bronze.
There’s something honest and revealing about body casting. The character of the person comes through in the sculpture—especially in the hands. Like the face, the hands hold so many muscles, bones, and micro-movements. They express emotion and intent without words. In this case, they embody kindness—offered effortlessly.
